Panasonic’s AG-AF100 AVCCAM HD camcorder is now available for rental at Moving Picture. As the first high-end 4/3” video camcorder that’s been optimized for high-definition video recording, the AF100 offers the desired aesthetics of popular DSLR cameras without the myriad of functionality issues that are inherent with the DSLR line.
The newest addition to Panasonic’s AVCCAM series, the AG-AF100 is targeted at video and film professionals. With more than two years since the release of the Canon 5D, the AF100 exhibits Panasonic’s commitment to learning from the DSLR revolution and bringing their own improvements to the table.
Three key factors in the success of Canon’s DSLR cameras have been consumer accessibility, interchangeable lenses, and sheer image quality. Targeted directly at the DLSR market, the AF100 comes with a purchase price of less than $5,000, making its rental price similar to that of a Canon 5D or Canon 7D. With a 4/3” sensor, the AF-100 promises shallow depth of field and a rich film-like image quality.
The AF-100 comes out of the box with a micro 4/3” lens mount. While this is great for folks who invested in Lumix and Olympus lenses in the past, it’s also highly adaptable for use with other lenses. Both Hot Rod and MTF Services offer 4/3” to PL mount adapters. As a result, the AF-100 can be used with professional film quality lenses such as the Zeiss Compact Prime CP.2 series.
The fully HD capable AF-100 boasts a number of additional features that increase its functionally. This includes:
